Summer Reading

I knew that the kids couldn't help but pick up a love of reading. I read to them in the hospital after they were born, for crying out loud! It has been so interesting watching the kids grow up as readers. Craig is a big fan of "fact books" and has been known to dazzle and amaze us with some random cool fact gleaned from a book or magazine. He has also recently been obsessed with the Lego catalog. When in doubt about where Craig is, assume that he is somewhere reading the Lego catalog...and more often than not, you'll be right. He also likes reading about weird things (such as the Bermuda Triangle or termites) and historical things (spies, battles, and more.) Anna likes to read...well, just about anything she can get her hands on...anywhere, at any time. Sometimes she even wears clothes while she reads. Craig was kind of stubborn about learning to read--he wanted to know how to read, he wasn't interested in learning. Anna just sort of taught herself when Craig learned. The doctor--a resident, I guess--didn't believe it. She patted Anna on the arm and said in a very patronizing tone, "Is mommy teaching you how to read?" Well, anyway, our trips to the library inevitably result in more books than we can carry. And how could they not when they have a mother who once accidentally dropped a Nancy Drew in a canal because she was reading while walking the dog!
